Hellboy II
We had a 'hell' of a weekend. Yesterday we stayed over at Caroline's boss (Lisa) who had invited us over for a proper sushi meal. We made our own sushi rolls/blocks and it was good fun doing it. On our way home we visited the Dutch Shop but we stopped at the Central Gardens Park first. We purely discovered it by accident. Here you can see all sorts of kangaroos, wallabies, emus, parrots and lorikeets all in enclosures (free of charge)... And this afternoon we went to see Hellboy II with Gold Class tickets. Don't ever do that because you won't like the old skool cinema anymore. In Gold Class you sit in proper reclining chairs, have lots of room and they serve you food and drinks (when ordered). A good way to see Hellboy or....... any movie from now on we think.

Wild Things
A finalist from the 2007 One Minute Wonder competition.
'The script was a bit of a homage to MR James' short stories that I have always enjoyed. The scenario was supposed to reflect the repressed undercurrent behind someone who is outwardly respectable in every way. Couple that with a pastime which involves destroying something in order to preserve its beauty. As for whether the noises that the man hears are real or imaginary, I would like people to make up their own minds.'

Drunk Animals in Africa
When it's time for the Marula tree to drop its fruit, it becomes a feast for animals of all kinds. Eating enough of this (over-ripened) fruit creates a very potent brew that can even make an elephant wobble. I remember seeing this as a kid (8-10 yrs old)and every time I think back at it, it still makes me smile.

Horizon - Einstein's Equation of Life and Death (2)
In the summer of 1939 Albert Einstein was on holiday in a small resort town on the tip of Long Island. His peaceful summer, however, was about to be shattered by a visit from an old friend and colleague from his years in Berlin. The visitor was the physicist Leo Szilard. He had come to tell Einstein that he feared the Nazis could soon be in possession of a terrible new weapon and that something had to be done.
Szilard believed that recent scientific breakthroughs meant it was now possible to convert mass into energy. And that this could be used to make a bomb. If this were to happen, it would be a terrible realisation of the law of nature Einstein had discovered some 34 years earlier.
Part 1 Horizon - Einstein's Unfinished Symphony can be found here.

Into the Wild
Last night we rented out the above movie. It was a different movie that exceeded our expectations of it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris McCandless grew up in Annandale, Virginia, and died at age 24 in a wilderness area of the state of Alaska. After graduating in 1990 from Emory University, McCandless ceased communicating with his family, gave away his savings of $24,000 to OXFAM and began traveling, later abandoning his car and burning all the money in his wallet.
Spoiler:
In April 1992, Jim Gallien gave McCandless a ride to the Stampede Trail in Alaska. There McCandless headed down the snow-covered trail to begin an odyssey with only ten pounds of rice, a .22 caliber rifle, a camera, several boxes of rifle rounds, some camping gear, and a small selection of literature—including a field guide to the region's edible plants, Tana'ina Plantlore. He took no compass or map. He died sometime in August, and his decomposed body was found in early September by moose hunters.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
We really enjoyed it.

Dralion - Cirque du Soleil
Last night we went to see Dralion. The latest show of Cirque du Soleil. We sat on the 3rd row from the stage, it was great.
''Dralion is the fusion of ancient Chinese circus tradition and the avant-garde approach of Cirque du Soleil. The show's name is drawn from its two main symbols: the dragon, representing the East, and the lion, representing the West. Dralion derives much of its inspiration from Eastern philosophy with its perpetual quest for harmony between humankind and nature.
Suspended in time between the past and the future, Dralion is a celebration of life and the four elements that maintain the natural order: air, water, fire and earth. Innovation soars to new heights as it defies the laws of nature. Dralion is a dynamic performance that transcends the boundaries of the imagination and leads us into a dreamscape with a new and sparkling perspective.''
It was a nice night out.

Horizon - Einstein's Unfinished Symphony
As Albert Einstein lay on his deathbed, he asked only for his glasses, his writing implements and his latest equations. He knew he was dying, yet he continued his work. In those final hours of his life, while fading in and out of consciousness, he was working on what he hoped would be his greatest work of all. It was a project of monumental complexity. It was a project that he hoped would unlock the mind of God.

Alone Across Australia
Jon Muir sets out to walk unsupported across Australia, from Port Augusta on the Spencer Gulf to Burketown on the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is a journey of 2500 kilometres that crosses one sealed road and three deserts, and Muir sets out with just a compass, 55 maps, water containers, camping and first-aid equipment, a camera and a gun. He will drag this gear on a two-wheeled cart harnessed to his body. Apart from limited supplies of rice, flour and muesli, he will live off the land. His only companion, an adorable jack russell terrier, Seraphine, scampering along beside him.

Four days left until the Olympics in Beijing. We are particularly looking forward to Heat One of the 100m Freestyle Swimming. The suspense of the Sydney Olympics was a killer and remains fresh in our minds ever since.

Hooray we won the lottery!!!!
We walked into a newsagent with last weeks lottery ticket and were expecting the usual: Sorry, nothing. But the clerk said to Caroline Sorry I can't pay this out. You'll have to contact NSW Lotteries.
We did not win the jackpot but AU$1144.15 is still a very nice amount.
