The MOST expensive beer we have ever seen!!!

Yesterday, Caroline and I went to the Redoak Boutique Beer Cafe. Only because Caroline could get a buy one lunch meal get one free on one of her shopping cards, NOT because it had beer in its name. Although......
The Redoak BBC is also a micro-brewery which was a pleasant surprise and I had one of the weirdest beer flavours I ever had, Marzen Rauch something or other, which has a smoked salmon flavour. Words can't describe it.
Really, it wasn't bad at all and I did enjoy it although next time when I order a new beer for the first time I might not go for a pint but a lesser size first.
The lunch we had was really good and we will definitely come back another time to sample more of both the beer menu and the food menu.

But we'll pass on the Special Reserve or the Framboise Reserve for now:

They are AU$ 75 /250 mL per bottle. That is AU$ 300 per Litre or approximately 140 British Pounds per Litre, 178 Euros per Litre or 280 American Dollars per litre!!!!

Bondi to Coogee

Dolphins off Mackenzies Point, Bondi
Honest?!
Today we did the Bondi to Coogee walk.
It's a 6km coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee. We aren't sure why we have never done it before, after having been to both Bondi and Coogee, but today we made a special effort to do it and we got up early and took the bus down.
Soon after we started the walk we were surprised to see a pod of dolphins. Unfortunately they were a little bit too far out for a good photo but we could still see them clearly enough.
We spotted the dolphins walking from Bondi to Tamarama Beach after which we walked on to Bronte and...

where we enjoyed a Fish Rock Leather Jack Lager at the local cafe and on to...

Gordon's Bay was a pleasant surprise because in our opinion it's not like any of the other inlets or beaches we'd seen in Sydney so far.
We are definitely coming back to do some snorkelling in Clovelly and Gordon's Bay now we have seen it, kicking ourselves for not going before.
And finally Coogee.

The Australian Museum

Saturday we went to the Australian Museum as the weather forecast was predicting showers we thought we should do something inside. The venue of choice was the Australian Museum. We'd been there 4 years ago and it hadn't changed much except for the temporary exhibitions. They were Face to Face and Dinosaurs.
Face to Face is an exhibition showing 2m high portraits of Apes and let's you think about the different emotions they are showing.

There was also a dinosaur exhibition where the skeletons of a wide variety of dinosaurs were shown. But I think the apes were the highlight for us.

Using a unique presentation that combines elements of drama and special effects to explaining each amazing subject, Weird Nature delves deep into the every day lives of living things to reveal that the bizarre is commonplace in the natural world.

Red Bull Flugtag Sydney '08

This year Sydney hosted its first Red Bull Flugtag. Contestants made a 'craft' and had to propel themselves off a ramp to see who would 'fly' the furthest.

We thought it wasn't going to be that busy but it turned out it was packed and over 60,000 people were there by the time we got there. So we didn't get to the front but it was still great to see them fall in the water from 6m up.

We met up with some friends and after had lunch at their place. They have an apartment in the heart of the CBD with great views over Queen Victoria Building, St Mary's Cathedral and Town Hall.

St Andrew's Spider

Living in Australia is great!!!
Especially the creepy crawlies you encounter. This spider here is the St Andrew's Cross Spider, living in our backyard.

A gardener (ours would be me) told us they are not poisonous, but they can still deliver a painful bite.

Mythbusters: Ruben's Tube

Jamie and Adam recreate this popular physics experiment where simply put fire represents sound waves.

The Rubens' tube, also known as the Standing wave flame tube, or simply flame tube, is a physics experiment demonstrating a standing wave. It shows the relationship between sound waves and air pressure.

Will it blend - Modern Marvels

Not sure why you would like to blend a plunger a mobile phone or even 50 marbles, but here you go.

PS: Add the ''It's amazing'' and ''But wait there is more.'' as you go.

The Bay Run

We are still doing the Bay Run at least twice a week and more if weather permits.
Because our day light savings doesn't start until the sixth of April by the time we do our walk the sun is just setting which provides us with some nice views over Iron Cove.

The Royal Easter Show 2008

On Earth Hour we went to Circular Quay just to see what the Harbour Bridge looks like without any lights, lighting it. Predictably we shouldn't have bothered as we didn't see it except for the roadway from where we were. Where were we? At Oceans Room (video) a sushi and sashimi restaurant where east meets west. We had an 8 course meal of the Chef's choice with a view of the Opera House. I know, we have such a hard life. The Opera House lights went off to but the ambient light still lit the whole place up.

(the Opera House at Earth Hour with and without flash)

The day after we went to the Royal Easter Show at the Sydney Olympic Park.
It is a bit hard to describe what it is like as there is so much of it. It is foremost an agricultural show but also boasts fairground rides, arts and crafts shows, wood chopping contests(?!), rodeo and much, much more...

Terry Jones: Penguins Take Flight

Camera crews discovered a colony of Adélie penguins while filming on King George Island, some 750 miles south of the Falkland Islands.

The programme is being presented by ex-Monty Python star Terry Jones, who said: "We'd been watching the penguins and filming them for days, without a hint of what was to come.

"But then the weather took a turn for the worse. It was quite amazing. Rather than getting together in a huddle to protect themselves from the cold, they did something quite unexpected, that no other penguins can do."
